Bushcraft Shelter In The Rain – Building a Roof for My Shelter – Cooking (Part 3)

Bushcraft Shelter In The Rain – In part 3 of this series I built a roof for my shelter using natural materials. The roof offered me good protection against light rain. Wood stove cooking – avocado toast recipe. Had a wonderful walk home under the moonlight. No talking, only peaceful nature sounds. If you want to find out more about all of these and the story behind this video, please read on.
I added a roof to my shelter on day 2 of my trip – I made it as steep as I could, so it could offer me good protection against the rain and snow. I first built the internal framework of the roof using wood and natural cordage – made sure it was sturdy enough and then added leafy branches and pine tree branches (acting as roof shingles) on top of the framework. Soon rain started and the roof I built proved its efficiency. It provides effective protection against light rain.
Avocado toast recipe – I made some simple bread and added avocado spread, tomato cherries, walnuts, spinach leaves, and sunflower sprouts on top. Avocado spread – crushed garlic, avocado, chopped green onions and dill, lemon juice, olive oil, salt/soy sauce, spices.
After I finished eating, the rain stopped and allowed me to have a pleasant walk home. The singing crickets and the silver moonlight made the trip even more enjoyable.
Don’t know if you ever had a feeling that everything happens right on time – this happened to me many times when I went camping – a heavy rainstorm, that turned into a snowstorm overnight, started only after I was close enough to a shepherd’s cabin, or the rain started after I almost finished my shelter/setting up my tarp, or I finally found a shepherd’s cabin after hours and hours of walking, just before it got dark outside, or I arrived home just in time for spending New Year’s Eve with my family after I had almost lost hope I could get back on time (lost my way in the mountains on that trip), and I could think of many more examples, but I will stop here. I always felt protected and taken care of. There were moments on the way when I lost faith or had dark gloomy thoughts, but they were always chased away by a new ray of hope that was born into my heart, a prayer, or a warm memory of my loved ones I brought to my mind and focused on. If this ever happens to you, remember, you just need to hang in there a little longer, the storm will pass, salvation is just around the corner. Or as Elder Sophrony of Essex used to say: “Stand at the brink of the abyss of despair, and when you see that you cannot bear it anymore, draw back a little and have a cup of tea.” A good night’s rest also helps a lot. Join me for a cup of tea, my dear friends!
